Dr. Lam’s Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

By Michael Lam, MD, MPH

In This Article

This is a great smoothie to start your day. It is high in protein and full of nutrients from natural sources. Using organic ingredients is best.

The breakfast smoothie ready to blend

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup raw nuts mix including 1/2 cup almonds, 1/3 cup walnuts, 1/3 cup pecans, hazelnuts, and 1/3 cup pine nuts (other nuts are okay, but NO PEANUTS).
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed, ground (the best type is organic flaxseed originating from cold climate countries such as Canada)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1/3 of an avocado
  • 1 citrus fruit (orange/grapefruit)
  • 1 fruit (apple, pear, plum, or pineapple). Avoid fruits in the melon family such as watermelon or cantaloupe.
  • 1/3 cup berries (blueberry or strawberry is good)
  • 1/4 banana
  • 1 cup raw milk, rice milk, almond milk, or oat milk
  • 1 cup filtered water (not distilled water)

Instructions

Place all ingredients together in a high-powered blender such as a Vitamix. Blend until smooth and add water as needed. With weaker blenders, this can take several minutes. When you drink the breakfast smoothie, expect there to be some pulp.

Yields 4 cups.
