Low Blood Pressure
Low blood pressure, also called hypotension, means the force of blood moving through your arteries is lower than your body needs at that moment. A common cutoff is below 90/60 mm Hg, but the most important measure is how you feel and whether the drops are disrupting your day.

Common Symptoms
- Dizziness or feeling lightheaded
- Fainting or near-fainting
- Blurry or fading vision
- Weakness or shakiness
- Fatigue or sleepiness
- Brain fog or trouble concentrating
- Nausea (sometimes vomiting)
- Rapid, shallow breathing (when symptoms are strong)
Likely Root Causes and Contributors
- Dehydration (not enough fluids, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, heavy sweating)
- Blood loss (injury, internal bleeding, heavy menstrual bleeding)
- Medications (including diuretics, beta blockers, blood pressure drugs, some antidepressants/antipsychotics, Parkinson’s medications)
- Heart-related issues (slow heart rate, valve problems, heart attack, heart failure)
- Hormone or blood sugar factors (hypothyroidism, Addison’s disease, low blood sugar, diabetes)
- Nutrient deficiencies and anemia (low iron, vitamin B12, folate)
- Pregnancy (often in early pregnancy)
- Alcohol use (can worsen dehydration and lower pressure)
- Postural and timing patterns (standing up quickly, standing for long periods, or drops after meals, especially high-carb meals)

Patient Pain Points We Often Hear
“I feel fine sitting down, but when I stand up, I get dizzy and have to grab onto something.”
“I avoid certain activities because I worry I will feel lightheaded or pass out.”
“After I eat, I feel sleepy or foggy, like my body shuts down for a while.”
Our Approach to Healing
How We Map, Treat, and Sustain Real Recovery from Low Blood Pressure with the LAM Method™
Low blood pressure is often a sign that your body is struggling to keep blood flow steady, especially when you stand, eat, or feel stressed. Our goal is to find what is driving your drops and rebuild stability without pushing your system too hard. At Lam Clinic, our approach to healing uses the three phases of LAM Method™: Learn the Why, Address the Root, Maximize Longevity. Here’s how we use the LAM Method™ to address Low Blood Pressure.
Phase 1 of LAM Method™
Learn the Why of Low Blood Pressure
We start by looking at your pattern. We review when your symptoms happen, what triggers them, and how your body responds to standing, eating, heat, stress, or exertion.
Using the NeuroEndoMetabolic (NEM) Stress Response, we identify which circuit is most involved. Most often, low blood pressure centers on the Cardionomic Circuit, which controls heart rate, vessel tone, and how your body adjusts when you stand or shift position.
Here are some common tests we use:
- Comprehensive laboratory testing
- Heart Rate Variability analysis
- EKG
- Echocardiogram
- Photoplethysmography Analysis
- Sudomotor Neuropathy Testing
- Ankle Brachial Index
- Carotid Ultrasound

Phase 2 of LAM Method™
Address the Root of Low Blood Pressure
Once we understand what is driving your drops, we build a plan that improves stability without overwhelming your system.
We organize care into three core areas:
Lifestyle Foundations
This is where most improvement begins.
- Hydration and sodium balance to support healthy blood volume, especially if symptoms worsen with heat, sweating, illness, or standing.
- Blood sugar stabilization with balanced meals to prevent post-meal crashes, shakiness, and fatigue.
- Postural and autonomic support including gradual position changes, pacing, and strategies for standing and post-meal symptoms.
Targeted Supplement Support
Supplements are chosen based on your specific root cause and introduced slowly.
- Vitamin B12 and folate when anemia, low red blood cell production, or nutrient depletion is contributing to fatigue and low pressure.
- Clinician-guided sodium and fluid strategies when low blood volume is a primary driver.
- Licorice root, in select cases, under supervision, when support for blood pressure regulation is appropriate.
We are also cautious with supplements that can lower blood pressure, such as magnesium, omega-3s, CoQ10, potassium, and garlic, unless clearly indicated.
IV Therapies
For patients who require additional support, we may incorporate:
- IV Nutrient Therapy
- IV Ozone Autohemotherapy
These therapies may help support circulation, improve oxygen delivery, and replenish nutrients involved in vascular tone and autonomic nervous system balance, which can help when low blood pressure is associated with dehydration, nutrient depletion, or stress-related nervous system dysregulation.
This information is educational, not a prescription. Your actual plan is always individualized, adjusted slowly, and refined based on how your body responds.
Phase 3 of LAM Method™
Maximize Longevity
As symptoms calm and stability improves, we simplify. The focus shifts to:
- Daily routines that fit real life
- Early signs to watch so dips are caught sooner
- A long-term plan for resilience during stress, travel, heat, illness, or schedule changes
NEM Response Circuits
How Your Body Regulate Stress
Your body handles stress through six interconnected circuits. When even one is out of balance, symptoms can show up in your heart, hormones, energy, and more.

Take the QuizFrequently Asked Questions
Can Lam Clinic help with low blood pressure?
Yes. We first learn the “why,” such as dehydration, low salt, blood sugar dips, autonomic imbalance, hormone or thyroid shifts, low blood volume, or medication effects. Then we create a personalized plan to support circulation, steadier energy, and long-term stability.
How to raise blood pressure?
If you feel lightheaded, sit or lie down, elevate your feet, and hydrate. Long term, the safest solution is identifying and addressing the cause, such as dehydration, anemia, medication effects, infection, heart issues, or autonomic imbalance.
What is a dangerously low blood pressure?
Blood pressure is generally considered dangerously low below 90/60 mmHg when it causes symptoms like dizziness, fainting, confusion, rapid breathing, cold clammy skin, shortness of breath, or a weak rapid pulse. If this occurs or the drop is sudden, seek emergency care immediately (call 911).
Why do I feel worse when I stand up?
This is often orthostatic hypotension, where blood pools in the legs and the body doesn’t compensate quickly enough. Slow position changes and proper hydration can help.
Why does my blood pressure drop after eating?
Postprandial hypotension can occur when blood shifts toward digestion, especially after large or high-carb meals. Smaller meals and steady hydration can reduce symptoms.
Do you offer virtual visits and where are you located?
Yes. We offer secure telehealth visits worldwide and in-person care at our clinic in Tustin, California, for individuals seeking personalized support for low blood pressure (hypotension) and related NEM stress response concerns. We proudly serve patients across Orange County, including Irvine, Santa Ana, Orange, Costa Mesa, and Anaheim, as well as patients throughout the United States and internationally who want expert care from the comfort of home.

The Lam Family has helped thousands recover from fatigue and stress for years.
Using advanced diagnostics and whole-body care, the Lam family looks beyond routine labs to uncover the real reasons behind fatigue—like adrenal stress, hormone imbalance, and nutrient depletion. Then, they create a personalized plan to help you heal fully and feel like yourself again.
The Pioneer of Root-Cause Healing & Whole Person Care
Before adrenal fatigue was widely understood, Dr. Michael Lam, M.D. led the way—developing one of the first clinical approaches to diagnose and treat it. His bestselling book, Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome, became a lifeline for patients around the world. Today, his children—Dr. Carrie Lam and Dr. Jeremy Lam—carry that legacy forward, building on his foundation with advanced diagnostics and whole-person care for lasting recovery.
