Gut & Digestive Health
Candida
Candida is a type of yeast that normally lives in small amounts in places like your mouth, gut, skin, and vaginal area. When your system is stressed or out of balance, this yeast can overgrow and show up as thrush, vaginal yeast infections, brain fog, sugar cravings, rashes, intestinal distress, sinus issues, or ongoing tiredness.

Common Symptoms
- Itching, burning, or irritation in affected areas, especially the mouth, skin folds, or vaginal area
- White patches in the mouth or on the tongue, sometimes with soreness or cracks at the corners of the lips
- Vaginal itching, irritation, and thick discharge that may come back repeatedly
- Red, irritated rash in warm, moist areas such as the groin, under the breasts, or between skin folds
- Discomfort with swallowing or persistent soreness in the mouth or throat
Likely Root Causes and Contributors
- Disrupted gut flora, often after antibiotics, steroids, oral contraceptives, or long-term inhaler use
- Blood sugar imbalances, including diabetes, insulin resistance, or high-sugar diets that feed yeast
- Weakened immune response, especially during chronic illness, autoimmune conditions, cancer treatments, or periods of high stress
- Hormonal changes, such as pregnancy, menopause, estrogen dominance, or adrenal dysregulation
- High-stress lifestyles, which strain the Inflammation, Neuroaffect, and Detoxification Circuits of the NEM Stress Response
- Reduced detox capacity, making it harder for the body to clear byproducts and maintain balance

Patient Pain Points We Often Hear
“I deal with constant itching, burning, or discharge, and it is embarrassing to keep going back for treatment when the yeast infection returns again and again.”
“My mouth or tongue gets sore, I see white patches, food tastes off, and I feel bloated and foggy most days, yet all my basic tests are ‘fine.’”
“When Candida flares, I feel exhausted, puffy, and uncomfortable in my own skin, with rashes, digestive upset, and brain fog that make it hard to work, socialize, or enjoy normal daily life.”
Our Approach to Healing
How We Map, Treat, and Sustain Real Recovery from Candida with the LAM Method™
Candida is rarely just about yeast on the surface. It is usually a sign that your gut, immune system, and stress response have been under pressure for a long time. Our approach to healing uses the three phases of LAM Method™: Learn the Why, Address the Root, Maximize Longevity. Here’s how we use the LAM Method™ to address Candida:
Phase 1 of LAM Method™
Learn the Why of Candida
We start by mapping your Candida pattern by looking at when symptoms began, what triggers flares, and key drivers like antibiotics or steroids, higher sugar intake, stress and poor sleep, and hormone shifts.
Testing may include:
- Comprehensive Stool (Candida, bacteria, parasites, gut inflammation)
- Organic Acids Test (arabinitol, yeast metabolites)
- Mycotoxin urine test (if mold exposure suspected)
- Food sensitivity testing
- Serum Candida IgG, IgM and Immune complex
For more information about specific tests and labs used in Candida evaluation, you can explore our full service page.
Phase 2 of LAM Method™
Address the Root of Candida
Targeted Support
- Probiotics like Saccharomyces boulardii to help restore bacterial balance and crowd out yeast
- Gentle antifungals such as caprylic acid, oregano oil, or berberine introduced slowly based on tolerance
- Coconut oil: Rich in caprylic acid, coconut oil helps weaken candida by disrupting its cell membrane.
- Ginger dandelion tea: Supports digestion and liver detox, creating an environment that’s less favorable for candida overgrowth.
- IV Nutrient Therapy: Delivers high-dose vitamins and antioxidants directly into the bloodstream to strengthen immune defenses and support the body in keeping candida overgrowth in check.
- IV Ozone Autohemotherapy: Uses medical ozone to enhance oxygen delivery and create an internal environment that is less favorable for candida while supporting immune modulation.
This information is educational, not a prescription. Your actual plan is always individualized, adjusted slowly, and refined based on how your body responds.
Phase 3 of LAM Method™
Maximize Longevity
Lifestyle Foundations
- Choose lower-sugar, less refined carbohydrate meals to help limit the fuel that can encourage yeast overgrowth
- Use antibiotics and steroids only when medically necessary, and rinse the mouth after inhaled steroid use to help reduce oral Candida risk
- Keep skin folds clean and dry, and change out of sweaty clothing promptly to reduce moisture that allows yeast to thrive
- Wear breathable, loose-fitting cotton underwear and avoid prolonged dampness to help lower the risk of recurrent vaginal yeast overgrowth
- Limit products that can disrupt the local microbiome, such as scented feminine products, harsh soaps, or irritating mouth rinses

Take the QuizFrequently Asked Questions
Can Lam Clinic help with Candida?
Yes. Lam Clinic helps people with recurring Candida-type patterns by focusing on why it started and what keeps triggering it. Using the LAM Method™, we look at your full picture through the NEM Stress Response, including stress load, antibiotic history, blood sugar swings, sleep, hormones, and gut terrain. From there, we guide you in real time to address what’s driving the pattern and support steady, long-term progress.
Is Candida considered an STD?
No, Candida is not an STD. It can flare from internal imbalances, though sexual activity may sometimes trigger symptoms in sensitive individuals.
Can Candida be spread from person to person?
Candida is usually not transmitted like an infection, but close contact can sometimes trigger symptoms if your own system is already imbalanced. The underlying issue is typically internal, not external.
What are the different types of candidiasis?
Common forms include oral thrush, vaginal yeast infections, skin-fold candidiasis, and intestinal overgrowth. In rare cases, Candida can enter the bloodstream and become invasive.
How do you get rid of Candida overgrowth?
Treatment often focuses on antifungal medications when needed while also addressing contributing factors such as blood sugar balance, recent antibiotic use, immune health, and local moisture or irritation that allows yeast to grow.
Do you offer virtual visits and where are you located?
Yes. We offer secure telehealth visits worldwide and in person care at our clinic in Tustin, California. We proudly serve patients across Orange County including Irvine, Santa Ana, Orange, Costa Mesa, and Anaheim, as well as individuals throughout the United States and internationally who seek personalized Candida, gut, and NEM stress response guidance from the comfort of home.

The Lam Family has helped thousands recover from fatigue and stress for years.
Using advanced diagnostics and whole-body care, the Lam family looks beyond routine labs to uncover the real reasons behind fatigue—like adrenal stress, hormone imbalance, and nutrient depletion. Then, they create a personalized plan to help you heal fully and feel like yourself again.
The Pioneer of Root-Cause Healing & Whole Person Care
Before adrenal fatigue was widely understood, Dr. Michael Lam, M.D. led the way—developing one of the first clinical approaches to diagnose and treat it. His bestselling book, Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome, became a lifeline for patients around the world. Today, his children—Dr. Carrie Lam and Dr. Jeremy Lam—carry that legacy forward, building on his foundation with advanced diagnostics and whole-person care for lasting recovery.
