Fatigue & Stress Response
Adrenal Fatigue
Adrenal Fatigue develops when the body can no longer keep up with long-term stress, which can lead to non-specific symptoms like chronic tiredness, poor sleep, brain fog, and weight changes.

Common Symptoms
- Low energy in the morning, afternoon slump between 3–5 pm
- Poor sleep, light sleep, or trouble falling back asleep
- Brain fog and slower focus or memory
- Feeling anxious or low, irritability under stress
- Cravings for salt or sugar, needing coffee to get going
- Bloating, constipation, or loose stools, food sensitivities
- Weight gain around the waist, difficulty losing weight
- Low libido, PMS changes or irregular periods
- More frequent colds or slower recovery from illness
Likely Root Causes and Contributors
- Ongoing life stress, work pressure, relationship strain, grief, financial worries
- Not enough sleep, late nights, irregular meals, high caffeine or sugar
- Overtraining, pushing through fatigue without recovery
- Blood sugar swings and skipped meals
- Gut issues, food sensitivities, nutrient gaps
- Environmental triggers, such as mold or heavy metals
- Chronic or hidden infections (for example H. pylori, parasites)
- Pain syndromes, recent surgery or illness, unresolved inflammation

Patient Pain Points We Often Hear
“My doctor says my labs are normal, but I still wake up exhausted and feel like I’m dragging all day.”
Our Approach to Healing
How We Map, Treat, and Sustain Real Recovery from Adrenal Fatigue with the LAM Method™
After Dr. Michael Lam experienced severe adrenal fatigue and burnout himself, he and his wife, licensed nutritionist Dorine Lam, developed a clinical approach to address chronic stress as a whole-body problem. The LAM Method™ is shaped by years of hands-on clinical experience helping people recover from adrenal fatigue safely and sustainably. It utilizes three phases to healing: Learn the Why, Address the Root, Maximize Longevity. Here’s how we use the LAM Method™ to address Adrenal Fatigue:
Phase 1 of LAM Method™
Learn the Why of Adrenal Fatigue
We begin by listening closely to your history and tracking how your symptoms change with stress, sleep, meals, and physical activity, so we can understand how long stress has been accumulating and how intensely it’s affected you over time.
Rather than relying on cortisol numbers alone, we map your NeuroEndoMetabolic (NEM) Stress Response, which includes six interconnected circuits: Hormone, Bioenergetics, Inflammation, Detoxification, NeuroAffect, and Cardionomic.
Here are the tests we commonly use with Adrenal Fatigue:
- 4-Point Cortisol and Hormone Test
- Organic Acids Testing that provides insight into mitochondrial health, neurotransmitters, and micronutrient status
- Comprehensive Gut Panel
- Toxins & Exposures
- Heart Rate Variability (HRV) / Autonomic Testing
For more information about specific tests and labs used in Adrenal Fatigue evaluation, you can explore our Adrenal Fatigue Recovery page.
Phase 2 of LAM Method™
Address the Root of Adrenal Fatigue
Once we identify your adrenal pattern, we begin rebuilding strategically in the right order and at a pace your body can tolerate. Recovery is not about masking fatigue. It is about restoring stability so your body can produce calm, steady energy again.
At Lam Clinic, every plan is personalized based on your symptoms, labs, and stress tolerance.
Lifestyle Foundations
We first stabilize the core systems that drive the stress response:
- Balanced blood sugar with consistent meals: Eat regular, protein-forward meals and follow an Adrenal Fatigue Diet to prevent energy crashes and cortisol swings.
- Restorative sleep and circadian rhythm support: Prioritize consistent sleep and gentle evening wind-down habits to improve sleep depth.
- Calming the “wired but tired” stress response: Use simple nervous system calming practices such as breathing exercises, light stretching, or quiet walks.
- Gentle movement that supports recovery: Avoid overtraining and focus on low-impact activity. Learn How to Safely Exercise With Adrenal Fatigue to prevent setbacks.
Targeted Supplement Support
Once your system is ready, carefully selected supplements may be layered in to accelerate healing:
- Vitamin C and antioxidants to support adrenal resilience
- B vitamins (especially B5) to restore stress metabolism
- Adaptogenic botanicals such as ashwagandha and rhodiola for balanced energy when the time is right
- Hormonal support (pregnenolone, DHEA, or bioidentical hormones) when clinically appropriate and closely monitored
More is not better. The right timing and dosing make the difference.
IV Therapies
For patients who require additional support, IV therapies can help replenish key nutrients, support cellular energy, and assist the body during periods of prolonged stress.
- IV Nutrient Therapy
- IV Ozone Autohemotherapy
Adrenal fatigue recovery is highly individualized. If you are feeling exhausted, wired, anxious, or burned out despite “normal” labs, it may be time for a deeper evaluation.
Phase 3 of LAM Method™
Maximize Longevity
As your system steadies, the focus shifts to maintaining progress under real-life stress. We help you build routines and habits that fit your life, not rigid protocols that are hard to sustain.
With ongoing coaching, check-ins, and thoughtful adjustments, you gain:
- More consistent energy and sleep
- Better resilience to everyday stress
- Clear guidance you understand and can follow confidently
Schedule a consultation at Lam Clinic to begin a structured, medically guided recovery plan tailored specifically to you.
NEM Response Circuits
How Your Body Regulate Stress
Your body handles stress through six interconnected circuits. When even one is out of balance, symptoms can show up in your heart, hormones, energy, and more.

Take the QuizFrequently Asked Questions
Can Lam Clinic help with Adrenal Fatigue?
Yes. Adrenal fatigue is one of our core areas of focus, and we use the LAM Method™ to evaluate your NEM Stress Response, identify what is driving your symptoms, and rebuild your system in a gradual, personalized way.
How do you treat adrenal fatigue?
Treatment focuses on restoring stress resilience through sleep rhythm support, steady nutrition, targeted supplements, and careful pacing of activity. At Lam Clinic, care is personalized based on your NEM Stress Response and tolerance level.
What not to eat with adrenal fatigue?
Many people feel worse with high sugar foods, excess caffeine, alcohol, and highly processed foods that trigger energy crashes. Long gaps between meals can also worsen fatigue and stress hormone swings.
Is Adrenal Fatigue real?
Yes. Adrenal Fatigue describes a real stress-driven pattern where cortisol rhythm and NEM circuits fall out of balance, even when basic labs look “normal.” At Lam Clinic, we know this firsthand, because Dr. Michael Lam went through severe adrenal fatigue himself.
Why is Adrenal Fatigue not widely accepted in standard care?
Conventional medicine focuses on extremes such as Addison’s and Cushing’s, where cortisol is very low or very high and clearly abnormal on standard tests. Many people with Adrenal Fatigue type symptoms sit in the “in between” zone, where tests are in range but rhythm and circuit function are off. Because there is no single agreed-upon test or code for this pattern, it is often overlooked even though the person does not feel well.
Is Adrenal Fatigue the same as Addison’s or Cushing’s?
No. Addison’s is very low cortisol and Cushing’s is very high cortisol, confirmed with specific tests like the ACTH stimulation test. The challenge is that many people with Adrenal Fatigue fall in the middle, where cortisol rhythm is off but not extreme, so they still feel tired, foggy, and sleep poorly even when standard labs look “normal.”
