FAQ: Enhance Your Adrenal Fatigue Diet

By Michael Lam, MD, MPH

In This Article

A balanced adrenal fatigue diet needs iron, which can be found in raisins

Q: I am RH negative and have also been anemic off and on for years. What are some good sources of iron (not meat related)?

A:Raisins, watermelon, figs and black beans are good sources of iron.

Q: I have Adrenal Fatigue and leaky gut. I know I should focus on my adrenals, but the more I read about leaky gut, the more I want to get it resolved. Can both be repaired at the same time?

A: Yes, both can be repaired at the same time. Some of the dietary adjustments for an adrenal fatigue diet may actually be helpful for leaky gut at the same time.

Q: I feel like I’m constantly eating to help control my hypoglycemia symptoms. I eat every 1.5 to 2 hours. Are there any foods you can recommend that will help my symptoms for more than 2 hours?

It is true, a high protein and fat approach is best for the adrenal fatigue dietA: In an Adrenal Fatigue diet, it is important to build up and repair the adrenal glands before your hypoglycemia can improve. Foods that are high in protein and fat can be taken for temporary relief.

Q: Many Americans are “sweet tooth’s.” How do you feel about pure fruit sorbet made with a juicer? Is that an OK way to consume sweets if you feel you must?

A: It is better than consuming sweets, but you need to watch the amount you eat on an adrenal fatigue diet. Overconsumption of any good food can cause an imbalance in the body.

Q: Is eating for your blood type very beneficial when you are suffering adrenal fatigue?

A: There is no harm in trying. The blood type diet is fitting for most of the people. Due to tremendous variation in individual constitution, there is no guaranteed success with it. If you would like to follow the blood type diet for your adrenal fatigue diet, I would recommend that you follow it vigorously for 3 months, even though you don’t see much harm or benefit in a certain food. After 3 months, if you see no improvements in your health, then you can deviate and use the blood type diet as a general guideline and not overeat the foods that should be avoided for your Blood Type, but take them with care and in small amounts.
