Frequently Asked Questions

Lam Clinic and Integrative Functional Medicine

FAQs

Learning how we address the root cause, preventing disease, and empower our patients to wellness.

How do I become a new patient?

Call our office at 000-000-0000 (current patients call 714-709-8000). Our office staff will gather basic contact and billing information, and help you plan the best time for your initial visit.

What is Integrative Functional Medicine?

Integrative Functional medicine is treating the root cause of your disease, not just focusing on throwing medications at your symptoms. Once the root cause has been identified, a personalized plan is put together that will help bring vitality back to your life. Not all practitioners of Functional Medicine are medical doctors as some could be chiropractors, nutritionists, or naturopathic doctors. At Lam clinic, our practitioners are licensed medical physicians.

What is the difference between conventional medicine and functional medicine?

Functional medicine builds upon the best of conventional medicine rather than rejecting it. Conventional medicine often focuses on naming diseases and using medications for every illness. Functional medicine takes a different approach. We view the body as one integrated system, not a collection of independent organs that is divided up by specialist. We treat the whole body, not just the symptoms.

Do you accept insurance in the physical clinic?

If you present to Lam Clinic physically in Tustin, California, we do accept majority of PPO plans and Medicare. Insurances we are currently credentialed with are: Medicare, Cigna, Aetna, Healthnet, United Health Care, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Tricare-West, and MultiPlan. When setting up your appointment, we will be requesting you to provide your insurance information to us so that we can check your insurance eligibility. In addition, please bring your insurance card and identification to every visit so we can calculate your deductible and copay. Please call your insurance provider to guarantee coverage. Our out-of-network (self-pay) patients have great success submitting the superbills to their insurance for reimbursement. We accept all HSA, FSA cards and CareCredit as a form of payment.

What can I expect at my first visit?

During this consultation, your practitioner will review all of your medical records as well as gathering other appropriate facts that are applicable to your health profile. Your provider will develop an individualized treatment plan based on your history and prior lab testing. The provider will also determine what additional specialty testing or treatments they want to start you on for your journey to regain your vitality.

How long will it take for me to recover?

There is no guarantee on how long it will take you to recover, however we typically see improvement in symptoms within the first three to six months. There are many factors involved in determining how long it will take for an individual to heal. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to healing because we are all unique individuals who have different histories, lifestyles, and needs. The healing process will be as unique as you and we like to allow it to unfold naturally as your body permits. No matter how long it takes, our entire team is here to support you throughout your healing journey.

Can the physicians at Lam Clinic be my primary care physician?

Yes, we are happy to provide Primary Care Services to our clients. If you have an acute medical need, you may need to use urgent care or the Emergency Department if you have a medical emergency. During office hours, we will do our best to see our clients for same day visits.

Do you work with patients outside of California?

No, due to the large volume of patients we have to see locally, we don't accept patients outside of California currently.

Do you prescribe medications to patients?

Yes, we have the ability to prescribe medications in the states where the physician is licensed in, except for controlled substances (stimulants like ritalin or adderall, opioids like norco or vicodin, benzodiazepines like valium or ativan).

What if I need a specialist?

You will be referred to medical and surgical specialists as it is deemed necessary for your best care. Additionally, communication with specialists will occur at your request to help you understand and make wise health care decisions.

What is NEM Therapy™?

NEM Therapy™ is a cutting edge approach to dealing with stress related conditions. It was discovered by The Lams over countless hours of clinical practice and observation.

What is Open Payments Database?

For informational purposes only, a link to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Open Payments web page is provided here. The federal Physician Payments Sunshine Act requires that detailed information about payment and other payments of value worth over ten dollars ($10) from manufacturers of drugs, medical devices, and biologics to physicians and teaching hospitals be made available to the public.
